What happens when a spell backfires, and why it might happen?

Updated: Jul 3, 2024

We often hear about spells backfiring, and it's something that can scare both new and experienced witches alike.

I've had countless witches reach out to me, asking for healing or luck spells, sometimes even asking another witch to perform spells on their behalf. It might sound surprising at first, but it's more common than you think.

But here's the thing – you're absolutely allowed to cast spells for yourself or in your own favor. It's not selfish or evil, despite what some might say. In fact, implying otherwise can be predatory, especially when they suggest you should pay them someone else to do it for you.

Now, let's talk about backfiring. When a spell backfires, it usually means it didn't go as planned. For instance, you might have wanted money, but didn't specify how it should come to you, and didn't protect yourself or those around you. Suddenly, a family member passes away, and you inherit money. That's an example of a backfire. But don't worry, backfires are usually proportional to the power put into the spell, and you can prevent them by adding protections.

Another way a spell can backfire is if you cast a harmful spell on another witch or someone protected by a witch. I won't delve too deep into that here.

Sometimes, spells can backfire in a positive way. Take my experience with a spell to get rid of an aggressive roommate, for example. While it didn't make him move, it led me to move instead. Looking back, I can see it was the best thing that could have happened, as it eventually led me to meet my husband, which lead me to meeting all of you.

So, don't let the fear of backfiring stop you from practicing magic or casting spells for yourself. You'll be just fine.
