Protect Your Love Spell

You have probably heard the argument that intent is everything, and while its not 100% right, it's not wrong either. Most ingredients that you might use in your spell work have more than one correspondence, and some can be both innocent and baneful at the same time, the switch is your intention. Even entire spells can be slightly altered with your intent alone.

This spell is one of those that can be altered with intent, it is called Protect Your Love, and depending on how you interpret that will determine what this spell will do for you. Maybe you feel you need to protect the one you view as your love, or protect the love in a relationship from outside influences. You could interpret it as protecting the love you give to others, helping you to avoid giving your love to the wrong person. Or maybe your love is a friend or family member who you feel could use a little help or protection in the love department. Your intent is what is going to shape this spell.

Ritual

Within witchcraft there are so many paths, so many ways to do things, it can be really hard to know which way to do things. Do I put it in a jar? do I burn them? do I need to dance naked under a specific moon phase? The answers are already in your heart, magic is personal to you and you already know what you should do, you just need to trust yourself.

I know some of you reading this are quite new to practicing so there are the basics:

Cleanse

Cleanse yourself, your area, maybe even your ingredients if you feel so obliged. You can do this a number of different ways, and no you don't have to choose just one either:

  • Smoke (represents fire)

  • Water

  • Soil

  • Sound (represents metal)

  • Wind

Charge

Charge your ingredients and other ritual tools, tell them what you need from them. You could shout at them, ask them for their help, speak softly to them, or think really intently while holding them or looking at them. Again do the method you feel drawn to.

Protect

You do need to protect yourself and your ritual space not just from potential unseen negative side effects of (any) spell, but from other potential entities or energies that may sense the power you are exuding through your spell work and come to feed off it. Think of them like ticks, if you have ever walked through the woods you have probably taken some precautions like wearing long pants and maybe some bug spray hoping to avoid one of these parasites from trying to feed off you. They are attracted to you not because you have done something wrong or had ill intent but rather because you happen to be putting out signals that you contain what they eat. Within the metaphysical plane there are parasites that operate just like this, some are more bothersome than others. This is why you should always put up protections, how you do that again is up to you.

Preform/Cast

This is the time when you will combine your ingredients, communicate your words of intent and cast your spell. Some might feel the urge to light candles, or even lay out things in a particular pattern. Feel free to be as theatrical or nondramatic as you like.

The Spell

I originally wrote this spell as a jar spell, however if jars don't work for you, please feel free to change that.

Ingredients:

  • Orris Root - to seek, hold, and draw in love, offers protection from negative entities

  • Yarrow - to give courage, attract friendship and love, improve psychic understanding, to remove unwanted attention.

  • Rose - to enhance luck, assist healing, relax nerves and attract love.

If you are going to use a jar or bottle and wish to seal it with wax the traditional colours to use would be Pink, Red, or Pure (uncloloured wax), however, as you might have already guessed you should use the colour of wax you feel drawn to.

After

Once your spell is cast, you might want to preform a closing ritual. For some this helps them rejoin and refocus on the mundane world. It offers a chance to thank your protections and any entities/deities that you may have called upon for help. Just as before you can make this a theatrical or nondramatic as you like, some witches just simply clean up and call it a day.

Glossary

Baneful - Spells which might have ill intent, this is not to say they are wrong or evil, many justice spells are baneful in nature.

Metaphysical Plane - Meta, from Greek (not to be confused with the new Facebook and Instagram company name) means change or different, or altered. When we combine it with the word physical we are saying the altered physical plane. In witchcraft when we talk about metaphysical we are talking about plane(s) of existence that we may be unable to explore with our physical senses

Mundane - This refers to anything non magic or spiritual related.
